When Harry Met Sally is a romantic comedy with witty dialog and fun characters. It stars Billy Crystal as Harry and Meg Ryan as Sally, two strangers who find themselves meeting time and again, moving into friendship, then a romantic relationship, then back out, then back in. Carrie Fisher Costars as Sally's friend Marie.
"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night."
When Harry finds himself needing to explain why he loves Sally, he comes out with the most honest explanation of love I've ever heard. The little things are what makes love stick, not the big events, not the big mannerisms, but the things that linger after those big things fade.

"I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
This almost immediately follows the previous quote. Sally tells Harry that he can't just storm in and say he loves her. To her, his decision seems irrational, the actions of a lonely man. Irrationality happens sometimes in love, especially when you feel you're in danger of losing that love. I think this line's just about the sweetest thing I've ever heard.

"You see? That is just like you, Harry. You say things like that, and you make it impossible for me to hate you."
Sally responds to the previous quote. She's happy, but at the same time she is angry with Harry. I think anyone can relate to wanting to hate someone and be angry at them, but being happy with them at the same time.

"It is so nice when you can sit with someone and not have to talk."
What's ironic about this quote is that the silence between Harry and Sally is very uncomfortable at this point. But as for the words themselves, it is nice to be able to sit or eat or walk with someone without needing to fill every moment with conversation.

"Right now everything is great, everyone is happy, everyone is in love and that is wonderful. But you gotta know that sooner or later you're gonna be screaming at each other about who's gonna get this dish. This eight dollar dish will cost you a thousand dollars in phone calls to the legal firm of That's Mine, This Is Yours."
When Harry and Sally's friends are first married, and Harry has recently divorced, Harry gets angry over the newlywed couple's argument over a coffee table. For anyone who's dealt with divorce, this is a hard truth that most people don't learn until it's happened and that no one thinks can happen to them. Love is a very strong emotion, and that emotion can get twisted by time or just life into something that is unhappy as opposed to a happy thing.

"What I'm saying is - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape or form - is that men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way."
Harry and Sally have this discussion the first time they meet, in a car on the way from Chicago the New York. This is, I've found, an unfortunate truth. While men and women often count each other as friends, there is rarely a lack of sexual tension between them.

"Harry: There are two kinds of women: high maintenance and low maintenance.
Sally: Which one am I?
Harry: You're the worst kind. You're high maintenance but you think you're low maintenance."
During one of Harry and Sally's many conversations, this comes up. There really are many types of women ranging between low and high maintenance. What this makes me think though, it that I'm one of those 'worst kinds' of women, and that makes me worried and amused all at the same time.

"How long do you like to be held after sex? All night, right? See, that's your problem. Somewhere between 30 seconds and all night is your problem."
Another conversation about sex and relationships between Harry and Sally. This, like many others, focuses on the differences between men and women. In most relationships I've been in, though, the holding was a mutual thing. I'm not sure if that's a fluke, or if this is an incorrect statement from Harry.

"Everybody thinks they have good taste and a sense of humor but they couldn't possibly all have good taste. "
Sally's friend Marie says this to her new husband during a fight over a coffee table she doesn't like. It's a funny point, because most people assume they do have good taste, but good taste is a relative thing.
